Thebesplayers : Uncharted 4 Trailer Uses Assassin's Creed 4 Art, Sony Admits "Regrettable Mistake" [UPDATE]

[UPDATE] Sony has issued a statement on the matter, confirming that it made a “regrettable mistake.” The trailer has since been edited to remove the art.

“In our eagerness to get the story trailer out we made a regrettable mistake and didn’t thoroughly vet the artwork used for an in game painting,” the Sony representative said. “We’ve already updated the trailer. We hold all artistry in high regard and take full responsibility for having allowed this to happen.

“We want to sincerely apologize to everyone at Ubisoft, the Assassin’s Creed team, the original artist, and our fans.”

The uses imagery from an art book, according to Ubisoft. Assassin’s Creed head of content Azaïzia Aymar, jokingly saying, “I get the ‘thief” title now.” This tweet has since been retweeted by the official Assassin’s Creed account.

Black Flag director Ashraf Ismail also chimed in, saying in a , “umm, thanks for the homage… ?”

Another Ubisoft developer, Ubisoft Montreal boss Alex Hutchinson, sent out a tweet about the matter to Jonathan Cooper, who worked at Ubisoft before moving to Naughty Dog.

As you can see in the comparison images above, Naughty Dog’s scene definitely resembles the Black Flag art. The one notable difference is that the character standing by the boat in Black Flag’s art is not seen in the Uncharted 4 trailer. You can use the slider tool above to quickly compare the two images.
